Walks.
The Isle of Wight is the first county to be given national
recognition by the Countryside Commission for the maintenance
and signposting of its footpaths and bridleways, of which
there are 500 miles in total, so there is great walking
to be enjoyed. The Tourist Information Centres can supply
you with maps and route guides, including those suitable
for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
The Annual Isle of Wight Walking Festival boasts an eye-catching
line-up of over 100 walks - more than double the number
from previous years - taking place at locations Island-wide.
The packed and imaginative programme has been designed to
appeal to all ages, abilities and interests. It includes
guided walks, sponsored walks, pub walks, ghost walks, fun
walks and competitive walks, fossil hunts and natures trails

Cycling.
The Island is a treasure trove of well signposted routes
for mountain biking, touring and family cycling. Bike hire
and repair information along with maps are available from
Tourist Information Centres.
This year a brand new Cycling Festival from the 10th-25th
June will provide visitors with an opportunity to explore
it to the full. In addition, the Festival offers a range
of on and off road cycling challenges for all ages and abilities
as well as a varied programme of entertainment for spectators.

By Plane.
Pleasure flights around the Island are available from Sandown
and Bembridge airports.
On Horseback.
Horse riding is a great way to explore and there are a number
of stables located across the Island where you can hire
a horse for half a day or longer. For details ask at a local
Tourist Information Centre.
Buses.
Southern Vectis operates an Islandwide service. Shuttle
bus services are also available.
Train.
Island Line connects Ryde Esplanade with Brading, Sandown,
Lake and Shanklin. The Isle of Wight Steam Railway connect
with Island Line at Smallbrook Station and on to Havenstreet
and Wootton.
Ferries.
There are 350 daily ferry crossings to the Island with a
choice of hovercraft, catamaran or car ferry.
